Holding On?

by Avery

Holding On?

Last Winter they were apart.

she hadn’t feared it leading up

but as separation longed she stole herself

away in pain for what, she’d felt,

she’d lost.

Last Spring they reconvened.

And she felt a vast relief to once

again have gained the chance to

glean what they could be. she laboured

in their junction to establish one true

fact: that She might understand the

pain she never wanted

back.

Tonight she felt estranged.

To be standing upon railroad

tracks and feel that sinking dread, that

if she shared her heart, they’d

fall apart, and she’d feel that pain

again. But to be still with fear

would kill the chance of hope;

Remaining here.
