Erasing Darkness

Girl at table.

Must’ve been long time now.

In her hand, letters:

     7 April 2018     8 April 2018

     13 April 2018    16 April 2018

     6 May 2018     24 May 2018

     17 July 2018     4 November 2018

Ahead is dark, light only behind.

Silence.

Somewhere.

Train roaring.

Girl is shifting, crying maybe.

Always.

Chair opposite, no inhabitant.

Phone mid-table, long past blinking

Red.

Smell like salt in distilled air.

Side table etched – 4 letters there

L P H and E.

Written on her face is Please and

on her heart.

Sorry.

Empty plate

on floor, by feet

rats

snuggled in a blanket.

Whisperings of waves

beyond

no movement

here. Blue.

Water washes words

once

wrought within –

Prisoner of purgatory.

In light

appears a Hunter

in hand, outstretched,

A match.

Calling.

Girl rises,

letters left behind,

running

for

a spark.
